Coleção: WHO Global TM Summit

Traditional medicine has held a significant role in Sri Lanka’s healthcare system for centuries. In the modern era, Act No. 31 of 1961 officially integrated traditional medicine into the country’s legal framework, marking a strong stance on its value in governance and health system development. The Department of Ayurveda, under the Ministry of Health, oversees traditional medicine governance. It supervises several key regulatory bodies: The Ayurvedic Medical Council (oversees practitioner registration and professional standards) The Ayurveda Education and Hospital Board (manages training institutions and Ayurvedic hospitals) The Ayurveda Research Committee (advances scientific studies and innovation in traditional medicine) Additional regulatory and control mechanisms are also in place to ensure quality, safety, and coordination of traditional medicine services.
