Established in 2008 under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) promotes the safe and effective practice of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) based on scientific principles and high-quality standards. NCCAM works with a multisectoral advisory committee and focuses on practitioner training, service safety, research, community education, licensing, and regulation of CAM practices. The center has developed partnerships with national universities and health institutions to support research and practitioner accreditation. As of 2020, NCCAM regulates five primary CAM areas: cupping, acupuncture, orthopedics, chiropractic, and physiotherapy, ensuring practitioners meet specific educational and ethical standards. It also launched Saudi Arabia’s first CAM practice guide, outlining classifications, safety requirements, and ethical obligations for licensed CAM services in the Kingdom.
