The Declaration of the Americas on Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine was created in July 2021 during the II World Summit on Traditional and Complementary Medicine towards Integrative Medicine in Peru. The event, which included over 180 panelists from 30 countries, emphasized the importance of integrating Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicines (TCIM) into healthcare systems to reduce health inequities and move towards Universal Health. The declaration outlines six key areas for strengthening TCIM within health systems: public policies and regulation, research and information management, recognition and protection of ancestral medicines, organization of health services, academic education and training, and ensuring the quality of TCIM resources and therapeutic products. The declaration calls for collaboration with indigenous communities, research on safety and efficacy, and the development of intercultural health models and educational guidelines.
