In Colombia, the Technical Guidelines for the Integration of Alternative and Complementary Medicines and Therapies (TCAM) within the General System of Social Security in Health (SGSSS) reflect the country’s recognition as a multi-ethnic and multicultural nation. Two normative approaches are defined: Traditional Medicine (MT-A) practiced by Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and Roma communities—regulated by SISPI—and Alternative and Complementary Medicine (MTCA), including systems like Homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Neuraltherapeutic Medicine, Osteopathy, and Naturopathy, exercised by licensed health professionals. TCAM in Colombia has evolved from private practices to formal university curricula and public healthcare policy. In 2018, the Ministry of Health and academic institutions jointly defined unique professional profiles and educational programs for specialists in four TCAM areas, formalizing their role within Colombia’s healthcare system.
