By 2020, most Koreans had used Korean Traditional Medicine (KTM) at least once. To overcome challenges in its use and improve safety and effectiveness, efforts were made to standardize treatments through evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs). These guidelines were developed using global clinical research and systematic reviews, evaluated according to international standards, and validated in 2023. The initiative helps dispel the notion that KTM lacks scientific basis and promotes its integration into national health insurance. Inspired by the classical text Dongui Bogam, the CPGs aim to modernize KTM as a recognized, science-backed part of public healthcare.
