Coleção: WHO Global TM Summit

Malaysia, recognized for its rich biodiversity, has about 1,200 plant species with medicinal properties and ranks 12th globally according to the National Biodiversity Index. To preserve traditional knowledge, FRIM leads documentation efforts in West Malaysia, while SBC and SaBC are responsible for East Malaysia. These initiatives document the medicinal plant knowledge of the Malay and Orang Asli communities and empower indigenous communities in Sarawak and Sabah through training and benefit-sharing agreements. Despite challenges, such as ensuring informed consent and equitable sharing of benefits, the projects contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage preservation, and compliance with international protocols like the Nagoya Protocol.
