The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC), established in 2022 in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India, serves as a knowledge hub dedicated to traditional medicine. Supported by a $250 million investment from the Government of India, the Centre aims to integrate traditional medicine into global health systems by focusing on evidence-based practices, data analytics, sustainability, equity, and innovation. The GTMC collaborates with WHO's regional offices and various stakeholders to advance research, facilitate knowledge exchange, conserve biodiversity, and foster partnerships. It also emphasizes respect for local heritages and indigenous knowledge, aligning with global frameworks like the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the One Health approach. Through these efforts, the GTMC seeks to optimize the contribution of traditional medicine to global health and sustainable development.
